   Overview

Come enjoy the pristine, untamed wilderness of Montana on a guided fishing trip. For over 25 years, Glacier Raft Company, Montana’s oldest and most experienced, has provided quality Montana fishing and whitewater rafting trips for over 300,000 people. Their seasoned guides bring their intimate knowledge of the river and years of experience along with Montana’s special brand of warmth and friendliness to escort you through the natural beauty and wonder of Glacier Country. Glacier Raft Company takes great pride in their professional guides, equipment, vehicles and facilities. All this goes together to make your trip a memorable experience!

The scenic beauty of Glacier National Park provides the backdrop for an ideal fishing trip on the Flathead River. Long before the movie A River Runs Through It, the 125 miles between the North, Middle and Main Flathead Rivers have been the source of many untold angler adventures. In fact, even though Glacier Raft Company was featured on Fishing the West in 1996, the Flathead River is still Glacier Raft Company’s best kept secret.

Glacier Raft Company’s professional guides, many of whom have grown up on the river, offer instruction in their stocked trout pond. Improve your skills with a guided tour to the Flathead’s most coveted spots. Fishing trips and instruction are available to meet the needs and desires of any fisherman, including ˝ day and full-day fishing, 2-5 day custom fishing trips and 5 day fly fishing school.

In 1976 Onno Wieringa, Bill Hofmann and Darwon Stoneman began Glacier Raft Company with two rafts, a van and a desire to share with others the beautiful Flathead River. Over the next 10 years, they pioneered the Lower Flathead River in Polson, Montana; the Lochsa River in Idaho; and bought into an operation in Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River in Utah and the Kicking Horse River in Canada. By 1985 they were spread pretty thin (or wide). Bill Hofmann traded his rafting attire for a flying career, and Sally Thompson came aboard as a partner to take over the office and reservations. As they all began to have families, they felt the need to focus on the original rivers they fell in love with, “The Flathead.”

Since 1996, Glacier Raft Company has constructed nine deluxe cabins with breathtaking views of the mountains and Glacier National Park, just far enough off the highway so you aren't bothered by road noise but close enough to the Park to be “the best base camp you'll find in the area.” The new millennium saw the opening of their new year-round facility which houses a complete fly shop, outdoor store, offices for cabin check-ins, multi-day check-ins and as the meeting place for all fishing trips.

Glacier Raft Company’s log cabins provide all the comforts of home along with breathtaking views of the mountains of Glacier National Park. They're conveniently located just half a mile from the Park's west entrance and offer separate sleeping and living areas, complete kitchen, full bath, television, covered deck, gas grill and gas fireplace to warm a cool Montana night. According to one guest, "This is the best base camp at Glacier." Included with each cabin is everything you might need to feel right at home!
