Not much has changed along the Middle Fork of the Salmon since the days of the Tukudeka or Sheepeater Indians lived here. Flowing through the heart of the largest wilderness area in the contiguous United States, the Middle Fork of the Salmon is a river of superlative beauty. It has shaped its course through a land so rugged that any attempts at settlement have failed. There are no roads leading to its banks and little remains of man’s brief presence, other than prehistoric cave paintings and dilapidated log cabins.
The Middle Fork is also one of America’s premier blue-ribbon fisheries. Flowing through wild country high in the Rocky Mountains, the angler can cast into gin-clear riffles and deep transparent green pools. Skill and cunning will add to your success, but even the novice will be well pleased on the Middle Fork.
On ROW’s Middle Fork fishing adventures, float with just two anglers per raft. The professional guides of ROW pilot the craft and assist with fly selection and technique. Your camp gear travels in the cargo boat ahead of the group leaving the fishing rafts light and maneuverable. It is not unusual for an adept fly angler to release 30-40 fish a day. Native west slope cutthroat, rainbows, and rainbow-cutthroat hybrids round out your quarry, while steelhead and bull-trout are a threatened species.
