Overview

Trout & About is a fly fishing instruction, guiding and destination company providing high quality fly fishing services. They offer fly fishing classes and schools, local and out of area guiding on select rivers, and distination trips to select locations.

All instructional options include the use of equipment, flies and lunch. Transportation is also provided from mutally agreeable locations. All Trout & About instructors are FFF certified casting instructurs and licensed guides. Phil is a master certified casting instruction and has published his own casting video, "Practical Fly Casting with Phil Gay, Part One".

Guiding is primarily conducted on a catch and release or special regulation trout streams within a three-hour drive from Washington, D.C. Primary waters are the Gunpowder, Savage, Casselman, and North Fork of the Potomac in Maryland, and Spruce Creek, the Little Juniata River and the Yellow Breeches in Pennsylvania.

Their primary destination trips is to Spruce Creek in central Pennsylvania. This beautiful private stream is loaded with fish and lots of big fish as well. They schedule three to eight-day trips, April through October, on specific dates. A private trip can be scheduled for your group if you have a minimum of four people for three days. This trip is all-inclusive and includes lodging, meals, an open bar, wine and beer, a commemorative ball cap, and a small selection of flies in a complimentary fly box. Other destination locations are the Savage and the Little Juniata. These trips are all-inclusive as well.

Trout & About also has working relationships with the Aniak River Lodge in Alaska and New Zealand Adventures in Sterling, VA. They can help you schedule a trip of a lifetime to New Zealand or Alaska.

Trout & About has female instructors and are happy to conduct women-only clinics by request. Their instructional team is headed by a Master Flycasting Instructor (there are less than 20 in the U.S.). Whether it's guiding the experienced angler or teaching casting, fly tying and fly fishing, Trout & About can ensure a quality fishing experience.
